"According to legend, St. Luke, author of the third Gospel, was thought to be both an artist and physician; clearly he painted a beautiful portrait of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit coming down upon her and the Church, working through the life of Jesus and the disciples. Throughout his Gospel, St. Luke was attentive to the healing power of Jesus that stretched beyond all boundaries-bringing new life to the dead, reconciliation and peace to Samaritans and foreigners, especially concerned for the needs and well-being of widows and the poor.
