Seven Last Words of Christ

The Seven Last Words of Christ from the cross, as recorded in the Gospels, have been the subject of many traditional devotions and prayers over the centuries, especially for Lent and Holy Week. These seven short sentences, uttered by Jesus as He endured His crucifixion, ar e filled with significance and meaning. They are both brief and poignant, capturing the depths of Jesus' mercy, physical suffering, emotional torment and spiritual isolation. If we want to meditate on Christ's experience of the Passion, we can turn to the Master Himself as He spoke to those nearest Him and to His Father.

The value and treasure of Scripture is that we have eyewitness accounts of our Redeemer as He lived and died. The goapel writers were inspired by God as they recorded these events, leaving us not only a reliable history of Jesus' life and death but also a window into His heart. As we meditate on all that Christ said and did in Scripture and especially on what He accomplished through His death and resurrection, our own hearts are filled with love and praise for our Savior.
